Indian Summer

This September, staff videographer Sean Santiago hopped on the Solid Surf tour bus for a journey up the Eastern Seaboard. Each year, Dan O’Hara the owner/ shaper of Solid Surf, stocks up the bus with several new shapes and models and hit the road to educate surfers on his latest board technology. This year highlighting the eco-conscious bio-flex board designs. The trip gives these West Coast dwellers some time to reconnect with friends, family and share some uncrowded waves with the fellow East Coast shredder.

 

Starting in Florida, covering 13 states over the span of 24 days and logging countless barrels the tour concluded in Maine. During the voyage, Solid Surf Sales Manager and XTERRA SURF team rider Blake Ferrero capitalized on a solid swell and perfect weather in his home town of Long Island, NY. We headed north up the frigid coast until we found a peeling left coming off a pier. Sean suited up and I went out to the snow-covered pier to shoot. Although it was challenging conditions to shoot in trying to keep the subject in focus during the blizzard, and not knowing if my toes were going to fall off, it was truly a moment us surfers and surf photographers live for.
