"When I first arrived in New Zealand it was a bit challenging figuring out which way to go without Siri to guide, but the hardest part was looking at maps while learning how to drive on the opposite side of the road from home. This photo is a map of the town I will be living in for the next four months."

"This is me just playing dead after hours of driving. A lot of the rounds here lead to extremely remote places where you will not see anything but sheep for hours."

"The adventure mobile herself! Her name is Jenny and she will be our ride for the next four months. We pray she will not let us down. This forest looked like something out of Lord of the Rings. It was so dark and mysterious."

"All of the boys suiting up for an epic session! It is crazy wandering through different forests in search of waves. Most the time we surf without a single person in the water or even on the beach."

"This day was outstanding! Me and my friends got barrel after barrel with no one out. The water was a crystal clear icy blue."

"It always feels good to get in the water after traveling. I knew it got windy here but I was not expecting the kind of 40 mph offshore wind that can kick off in just a couple of minutes."

"Not too bad of a place to live. This is home when I’m not out looking for new adventures around the island. I can’t wait to find some new surf spots and explore outside of the city."

Surfing in a Blizzard
Surfing in a Blizzard

by Steve Ramsthaler January 23, 2018

We headed north up the frigid coast until we found a peeling left coming off a pier. Sean suited up and I went out to the snow-covered pier to shoot. Although it was challenging conditions to shoot in trying to keep the subject in focus during the blizzard, and not knowing if my toes were going to fall off, it was truly a moment us surfers and surf photographers live for.
